Seven Awkward Sex Scenes. Part One
Overview
A young film director attempts to make her first film using her own sexual experience as an inspiration. As a result, the re-enactment of the awkward sex scenes gets mixed with the awkwardness of the low-budget filmmaking process.
Director Biography — Liene Linde
Liene Linde (1986) is a Latvian film director and film critic. Her short film “Fake Me a Happy New Year” (2013), also a graduation work for Latvian Academy of Culture, won prizes in several international film festivals and was awarded Latvian national film award “Lielais Kristaps”.
Director Statement
“Seven Awkward Sex Scenes. Part One” is my postgraduate work at Latvian Academy of Culture. My graduation film from the Academy “Fake Me a Happy New Year” (2013) was a dark autobiographical comedy exploring the mindset of a family living in a post-soviet country. The film was well received and awarded the national film prize as the best student film in Latvia. As my postgraduate work I wanted to try something even more challenging and personal, so “Seven Awkward Sex Scenes” was born: a film that not only dives into the history of my sex life, but also shows the hilarious difficulties of filmmaking process. To heighten the stakes, I have a part in film too, playing myself, a confused female filmmaker constantly confronted with the question “But why?” not only by other characters but by myself as well.
